The Full Story

Guests enter what initially appears to be a grand exhibition displaying newly uncovered Alton Towers artefacts. That framing is worth pausing on — the maze is explicitly positioned as being inspired by the real history of the resort, rather than an invented setting.

The tour then takes a dark turn. Visitors are lured into the hidden archive of The Curator, a figure obsessed with preserving the past.

Inside, they encounter The Archivists — a silent workforce of hypnotised servants carrying out The Curator's orders, searching for new additions to his collection.

And then the detail that completes the concept: those who fail to escape are transformed into living exhibits, trapped within the archive forever.

That's the answer to the teaser's "not every exhibit is as lifeless as it seems." The collection is made of people. Previous visitors who didn't get out.

Where It Actually Is: The Towers Ruins

This is the genuinely surprising confirmation.

Final Exhibit is located in the Towers Ruins — the historic Grade II\* listed building itself.

I'd previously reasoned it probably *wouldn't* be there, given persistent rumours that the park could no longer build mazes inside the listed structure following The Attic's removal. That reasoning was wrong, and it's worth saying so plainly.

More than that, it makes the concept considerably richer. A maze about uncovering hidden Alton Towers archives, staged inside the actual ruins of the actual house, with a villain obsessed with preserving the past — that's a genuinely tight marriage of story and setting. The Silent Servants

The Archivists are the second new element, and they're a genuinely clever piece of design.

Silent, hypnotised scare actors are a meaningfully different proposition to shouting, chasing performers. A silent workforce sits firmly in the former camp — presence and dread rather than noise.

It also fits the setting. An archive is a place of enforced quiet. Staffing it with servants who don't speak is thematically exact.

Saturday 26 September to Sunday 1 November 2026, on selected dates, with the resort open until 9pm on event nights.

Worth noting: the 16 October to 1 November stretch aligns with UK half-term and is the busiest window of the entire event. If shorter queues matter, aim earlier.

Spooky Days covers trick-or-treat walkthroughs, rides at dusk, a Halloween playground in the Courtyard arena, shows and character meet-and-greets. Frightful Nights is where the mazes and scare zones operate.

Final Exhibit's age rating. The behind-the-scenes tour is 12+, but that doesn't necessarily indicate the maze's own classification. Comparable mazes have carried 12+ and 15+ ratings, and Alton Towers typically publishes maze-specific guidance closer to the event.
