Scarefest isn't one event. It's two, running in the same park on the same dates — and choosing the wrong one is the easiest way to have a disappointing visit.

Here's the distinction, and how to work out which is yours.

The Basic Split

Spooky Days is the daytime, family-facing side of Scarefest. Halloween theming, character meet-and-greets, trick-or-treat walkthroughs, shows in the Courtyard Arena, and rides running normally.

Frightful Nights is the after-dark side. Scare mazes, scare zones populated by roaming actors, and the park's coasters running in genuine darkness.

Same day, same ticket, different halves.

The Crucial Detail: They're Not Separate Tickets

This trips people up constantly. You don't book "a Spooky Day" or "a Frightful Night" — you book a Scarefest date, and both are available to you within it.

What separates them is timing and what you pay extra for.

Spooky Days content runs in daylight and is largely free with admission. Frightful Nights content runs from mid-afternoon into the evening, and the mazes require separate paid tickets.

When Each Actually Happens

This matters more than the branding.

Family walkthroughs — roughly 11am to 4:30pm on Sunday to Friday, 10:30am to 6pm on Saturdays.

Scare mazes — from 3pm Sunday to Friday, but 1pm on Saturdays.

Free scare zones — from 5pm, running until roughly 30 minutes after the rides close.

CBeebies Land — closes at 5pm.

Read those together and something important emerges: on a Sunday-to-Friday visit, the family attractions close at 4:30pm while the mazes opened at 3pm. There's only a 90-minute overlap where both are running.

Which Should You Book?

Book with Spooky Days in mind if: your children are under 12, anyone in your group is genuinely anxious about scares, or you want a festive day out rather than a horror experience.

You'll want to arrive early, do the family walkthroughs and CBeebies Land in the morning, catch the Courtyard shows, and likely leave before the scare zones open at 5pm.

Book with Frightful Nights in mind if: you're an adult group or have teenagers, you want the mazes, and riding coasters in the dark appeals.

You'll want to arrive later — early afternoon is fine — and stay until close.

Book for both if: you have a mixed-age group. This is genuinely doable, but it needs planning around that 90-minute overlap, and it may mean splitting the group for part of the day.

The Saturday Advantage

If you want both halves properly, Saturday is meaningfully better.

Mazes open at 1pm rather than 3pm, and family walkthroughs run to 6pm rather than 4:30pm. That turns a 90-minute overlap into roughly five hours where both sides of the event are operating.

The trade-off is that Saturdays are the busiest Scarefest days. Longer queues, but far more flexibility.

What Each Side Actually Costs

Spooky Days content is largely included in your admission — the walkthroughs, shows, character appearances and CBeebies Land Monster Ball.

Frightful Nights mazes are extra. Bundles or solo tickets on top of your park entry, covered in detail elsewhere on this site.

The free scare zones — Dark Hollow and Burial Grounds — sit in between: they're Frightful Nights content, but they cost nothing.

That's genuinely worth knowing if you're budgeting. You can experience a substantial amount of the after-dark atmosphere without buying a single maze ticket.

The Mistake to Avoid

The most common one: arriving late with young children.

If your day is built around the family walkthroughs and CBeebies Land, arriving at 2pm on a Wednesday leaves you roughly two and a half hours before those attractions close. Meanwhile the park fills with scare actors and the atmosphere shifts toward something your children may not enjoy.

Spooky Days rewards early arrival. Frightful Nights rewards staying late. They're genuinely opposite strategies.
