February half-term (mid-Feb) is the first busy spell. Weekdays outside half-term are extremely quiet.
Season opening (mid-to-late March). Weekdays are near-empty; weekends draw pass holders eager to ride.
Easter holidays bring the first heavy crowds. Bank holiday weekends run at capacity.
May half-term and the two bank holidays are busy. Term-time weekdays remain a sweet spot.
Late June sees school trip week β mornings can feel busy, but crowds thin sharply after 3pm.
Summer holidays begin around 20 July. Expect longer queues on major coasters from that point onwards.
Peak season. Every day runs busy; weekends and the August bank holiday are the year's most crowded.
The best month to visit. Kids are back at school, weather is often warm, queues drop dramatically MonβThu.
Scarefest weekends and October half-term are the busiest of the whole season alongside August.
Fireworks weekends (early Nov) are busy; the rest of the month is very quiet before park closure.
Christmas at Alton Towers events run selected dates β book ahead as capacity is capped.
Gates open earlier than the rides. Being at the turnstile at rope-drop can save 60β90 minutes of queueing on your first two rides.
Bluey the Ride, Nemesis Reborn and the next-headline coaster always draw the longest queues by mid-morning.
Most guests walk anti-clockwise from the entrance. Head to Forbidden Valley or Dark Forest first to ride ahead of the crowd.

September is the quietest full month, particularly the first two weeks once schools return. Weekday queues can be under 20 minutes even on major coasters.
The August bank holiday weekend, the final weekend of Scarefest in late October and Easter weekend are consistently the busiest days of the season.
Tuesdays outside school holidays are one of the quietest days of the week. Most major rides run at walk-on wait times before 11am and after 3pm.
