Do Merlin Annual Pass holders have to pre-book Alton Towers entry?

Yes. Merlin Annual Pass holders currently need a reservation for each person visiting and must show both the reservation and a valid pass at the gate. Can you spend two days at Alton Towers?

When does Alton Towers close for winter?

For the 2026 main theme-park season, the final scheduled day is Sunday 8 November, following the Fireworks Spectacular on 6–8 November. When does Alton Towers reopen after winter?

The main theme park normally reopens in spring, usually March. The exact 2027 opening date and which rides will be operating must be confirmed against the resort's official calendar before booking. Does CBeebies Land stay open during winter?

Not as a normal full theme-park day. The main park closes for winter, but selected family attractions, including some CBeebies Land experiences, may be available with advertised Christmas days or festive short breaks. No. Alton Towers Resort states that it does not offer a Rainy Day Guarantee. Rain alone does not entitle guests to a free return visit. Do Alton Towers rides close in bad weather?

What time does the Alton Towers monorail open?

Can you bring food and drink into Alton Towers?

Yes. You can bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks into Alton Towers Theme Park and use its designated picnic areas. Alcohol and barbecues are not permitted. The Waterpark has separate rules: outside food is normally prohibited, except for allergies or specific dietary requirements. Can you smoke or vape at Alton Towers?

Yes, but only in the designated smoking areas marked on the current theme park map. The same rule applies to cigarettes, vapes and e-cigarettes. Can you take alcohol into Alton Towers or buy it inside?

You cannot bring your own alcohol into the theme park without the operator's express permission. Alcoholic drinks may be sold to adults aged 18 or over at authorised venues, and they must be consumed only where the resort permits. Does an Alton Towers theme-park ticket include the Waterpark?

How do I apply for and use a Ride Access Pass at Alton Towers?

Eligible guests who cannot use a standard ride queue may apply for a free Merlin Digital Access Pass through Nimbus Disability or use a qualifying Nimbus Access Card. At present, guests must then pre-book an available Ride Access Pass session for Alton Towers through the Merlin Ride Access Pass app; holding the access card alone does not reserve a visit. Alton Towers has announced changes to its virtual queuing system from late 2026 and intends to phase out pre-booking, but follow the live rules until the new process launches. Is Alton Towers Scarefest suitable for families?

Does Hex turn you upside down?

Can a child who is 90cm tall ride Bluey the Ride?

Which rides can a child who is 120cm tall enjoy?

They may qualify for Wicker Man, TH13TEEN and Spinball Whizzer, subject to other requirements, but not the 140cm headline coasters. Use our height-by-height comparison.

Is Nemesis Reborn suitable for riders with a larger chest?

How many loops does The Smiler have?

Is Wicker Man scarier than TH13TEEN?

Both are thrilling in different ways: Wicker Man uses a fast wooden coaster and theatrical theming; TH13TEEN has a surprise indoor drop. Neither goes upside down. Read Wicker Man and TH13TEEN before choosing.

Is the new Final Exhibit maze free with a Scarefest ticket?

What if I am visiting with a two-year-old?

Admission age and same-day re-entry

Can a 13-year-old go to Alton Towers without an adult?
