As the autumn leaves begin to fall, the magic is just starting at the UK’s favourite theme park. Unofficial Alton Towers can confirm that preparations are officially underway for the Alton Towers Christmas 2026 season. Running from late November through to the end of December, this year’s event promises to be the most enchanting yet, blending seasonal thrills with traditional festive cheer.
Experience Festive Thrills at Alton Towers Resort
For the 2026 season, guests can expect a curated selection of rides to remain open, offering a unique opportunity to experience the park's atmosphere under the glow of thousands of fairy lights. The festive event typically includes a transformation of the Fountain Square and Mutiny Bay areas, featuring seasonal food stalls serving everything from toasted marshmallows to spiced mulled wine.
To ensure you don't miss out on the magic, it is highly recommended to book your Alton Towers tickets in advance, as peak weekend dates in December are expected to sell out quickly. For those who want to visit multiple times throughout the holiday period, the Merlin Annual Pass offers excellent value for returning families.
Meet Santa at the 2026 Grotto
No Christmas visit is complete without a trip to see the big man himself. The 2026 Santa’s Grotto experience is set to return to the Mistletoe Lane area. Families can enjoy an interactive journey through a winter wonderland before meeting Santa Claus in his cosy log cabin. Every child meeting Santa will receive a high-quality gift to take home, making it a must-do for those with little ones.
Santa’s Sleepover and Festive Breaks
For the ultimate holiday experience, the Alton Towers Resort hotels are launching their 'Santa’s Sleepover' packages for 2026. These stays include overnight accommodation in one of the themed hotels, a festive evening meal, and breakfast the following morning. Guests staying overnight also gain exclusive access to the Waterpark and the pantomime, which is a staple of the resort’s indoor entertainment during the colder months.
If you are planning to stay overnight, remember that you can secure your Alton Towers stay and tickets online now. Frequent visitors can also take advantage of special pass-holder discounts by using their Merlin Annual Pass to unlock better rates on selected dates.
Stay tuned to Unofficial Alton Towers as we bring you more updates on the full 2026 ride line-up and live entertainment schedules as they are announced!
Planning considerations
Christmas packages are not interchangeable with a normal summer theme-park ticket. Before booking, check your selected package's dates, accommodation, Santa experience, entertainment and the particular family rides included. The full coaster line-up should not be assumed to operate during a festive hotel break. If you are travelling with children, allow time for dining and organised activities rather than building the day around a standard ride-count target. Confirm any extra charges, cancellation terms and arrival instructions before completing your reservation.
