Where to find it

X-Sector, on the far side of the park from the main entrance — walk down past Oblivion, or take the Skyride to Forbidden Valley and cut across.

Best time to ride

Ride in the first 30 minutes after opening, or in the last hour of the day. Queues typically peak between 12pm and 3pm, when waits of 60–90 minutes are common on busy summer Saturdays.

Fastrack information

The Smiler is included in Fastrack. It is one of the best-value Fastrack purchases at the park because the standby queue is consistently the longest.

Accessibility and rider requirements

Transfer from wheelchair required. Riders must be 1.4m or taller. The ride has a test seat at the entrance — worth using if you are unsure about the restraint fit.

History

The Smiler opened in May 2013 as part of the Marmaliser story, themed around a sinister corrective programme. In June 2015 the ride was involved in a serious collision; it reopened in March 2016 with additional safety systems and remains one of the most-ridden coasters in the UK.

Nearest facilities

X-Sector toilets, next to the Oblivion exit. Nearby food: The Burger Kitchen in X-Sector is closest; Rollercoaster Restaurant is a short walk towards the Towers.
